UF supports the ethical use of artificial intelligence

The University of Florida, a proponent for ethics in artificial intelligence, is part of a new global agreement with seven other worldwide universities that are committed to the development of human-centered approaches to artificial intelligence (AI) that will impact people everywhere. During the Global University Summit at Notre Dame University, Joseph Glover, UF provost and senior vice president of academic affairs, signed The Rome Call for AI Ethics on October 27 on behalf of the University of Florida and served as a panelist for the two-day summit attended by 36 universities invited from around the world. The event was held in Notre Dame, IN. The signing indicates a commitment to the principles of the Rome Call for AI Ethics: to ensure artificial intelligence serves the interests of humanity and to support regulations and principles to deliver emerging technologies that are ethically centered. UF joins a network of universities that will share best practices, tools, and educational content, as well as meet regularly to share updates and discuss innovative ideas.

"We've created a replicable, powerful model of public-private cooperation for everyone's benefit," said Malachowsky, who serves as an NVIDIA Fellow, in an online event featuring leaders from both the UF and NVIDIA. UF will invest an additional $20 million to create an AI-centric supercomputing and data center. The $70 million public-private partnership promises to make UF one of the leading AI universities in the country, advance academic research and help address some of the state's most complex challenges.

World's First AI University Has More Than 3200 Applicants Already

According to media reports more than 3,200 students have applied for the school in the first week admissions were open. Many of the applicants came from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Egypt, India, and China. In October Abu Dhabi announced the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, which will enable graduate students, businesses, and governments to advance AI. The university is named after the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is an advocate for developing human capital through science. The recruitment process has begun for the world's very first university dedicated to artificial intelligence, here in the UAE. More than 3,000 people have started the process to attend The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, which will open for students from September 2020. Pakistan says wants to collaborate with UAE on world's first AI university

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's Minister of Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Friday lauded the United Arab Emirates' plans to launch the world's first university of artificial intelligence, expressing Islamabad's interest in collaborating on the project. Earlier this month, Abu Dhabi announced the opening of the first dedicated AI university. The Mohammad Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) will open its doors on September 2020. Chaudhary said Pakistan also had a center of excellence on artificial intelligence and "would like to join hands with the UAE university to enhance the capabilities of our people in the field". "UAE was the first country which established a proper ministry for artificial intelligence in 2017," the minister told Arab News in a phone interview from China where he is on a six-day official visit.
